Addis Ababa (ENA) – President Emmanuel Macron has arrived at Lalibela, Amhara Regional State, for a two-day state visit in Ethiopia.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed welcomed the president upon his arrival at Lalibela International Airport this afternoon.
Macron is scheduled to visit the rock-hewn Churches of Lalibela and discuss about ways of renovating the churches which were inscribed as UNESCO’s World Heritage.
It is to be recalled that France agreed to provide support for the renovation of Lalibela churches during the visit of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to France in October 2018.
Among the dignitaries who received the president included Amhara State Chief Administrator Ambachew Mekonnen, Culture and Tourism Minister Hirut Kassaw and other senior government officials.
Macron kicked off his 4-day trip to Africa on Monday starting with Djibouti and he will travel to Kenya upon concluding his visit in Ethiopia.
