Addis Ababa (ENA) – UN Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Foreign Minister Workneh Gebeyehu as Head of the United Nations Office in Nairobi.
The Secretary-General announced the appointment of Workneh as Director-General of the Office of the UN in Nairobi (UNON) yesterday, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The appointment of Workneh is ascribed to Ethiopia’s significant role in the promotion of regional peace and security as well as the country’s efforts to realize Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Workneh succeeds Hanna S. Tetteh of Ghana who was appointed as Special Representative to the African Union and Head of the United Nations Office to the African Union.
Workneh Gebeyehu was a Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2016.
