Ethiopia Keen To Share Experience To Somalia, Says Speaker

ADDIS ABABA – Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) of Ethiopia, Tagesse Chaffo, today received delegation led by Mohammed Mursal, Speaker of the Somali Parliament.

Tagesse on the occasion said the visit of the delegation would further elevate the ties between the two countries, besides paving favorable conditions for the two neighboring countries to work jointly for regional peace.

He added Ethiopia is keen to share its experience to Somalia in political, economic and other sectors.

Mohammed Mursal said the two-decade long conflict in his country negatively impacted the people and economy of the nation and also its ties with Ethiopia.

Mursal requested the Ethiopian government to provide capacity building support to the Somalia parliament for the success of the 2021 election as well as to continue its support to efforts to defeat Al Shabaab.

Stating that women represent 30% out of the total 275 seats in the Somali parliament, the Speaker said, adding efforts would be made to increase their number in the upcoming election.

Ethiopia had granted scholarship for 310 Somali students.
