Egypt said it believes a solution to the Libyan crisis “shall be exclusively Libyan and agreed by all Libyans with no interference or diktats from external parties’.
In an official statement, Egyptian foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said the belief was stressed upon during the meetings of Libyan parties hosted lately by Cairo, the latest by the consultative meeting of the Libyan House of Representative members.
He said Egypt praised the humanitarian truce declared recently by the Libyan parties on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha, describing it as “a step on the right path towards the possibility of building confidence between the Libyan parties, while stressing that reaching a comprehensive political solution remains the only way to restore stability in Libya.”
“The spokesman stressed the need for all Libyan parties to declare their categorical rejection of foreign intervention in Libyan affairs, along with the documented violations of the resolutions of the United Nations by known parties that export arms and equipment, and facilitate the transfer of terrorist fighters into Libya before the international community’s eyes,” the statement read.
Hafez said that Egypt urges the Libyan parties to take a clear and unequivocal stance to distance themselves from terrorist and criminal groups, especially those listed on the Security Council sanctions lists, denouncing in this context the recent terrorist bombing in Benghazi and offering condolences to the families of the victims.
