The Ninth Symposium on China-Arab Relations and China-Arab Civilization Dialogue of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF) was held via video link.
Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun and Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS) Hussam Zaki jointly attended and addressed the symposium.
The symposium was also attended by about 40 representatives, experts and scholars from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the National Radio and Television Administration, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and well-known academic research institutions of China as well as from 21 Arab States and the LAS Secretariat.
Under the theme of “China-Arab civilization exchanges against the backdrop of building a community with a shared future”, the participants from both sides had in-depth dialogues and discussions on three topics, including “advocating inclusiveness and solidarity, and respecting unique civilizations and social systems of different countries”, “strengthening dialogue between the two ancient civilizations of China and Arab”, and “deepening exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations, and strengthening people-to-people ties under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)”. The final report was adopted at the symposium.
Zhai Jun said in his speech at the opening ceremony, in a time of unprecedented global changes and a once-in-a-century pandemic, only by upholding the values of equality, mutual learning, dialogue and inclusiveness among civilizations can the world enhance mutual trust and find the right way to overcome difficulties and achieve development.
China and Arab States should carry forward precious historical experience, continue to deepen exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and Arabic civilizations, further cement the cultural foundation for building a China-Arab community with a shared future, and contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. China and Arab States should advocate solidarity and inclusiveness and show respect for unique civilizations and social systems of different countries.
The two sides should uphold multilateralism, facilitate the peaceful and equal coexistence of different civilizations, and promote the resolving of related hotspot issues. Both sides should conduct high-quality BRI cooperation, strengthen ties between Chinese and Arabic people, and consolidate the public opinion foundation for China-Arab relations.
Hussam Zaki spoke positively of Arab-China relations and outcomes of Arab-China civilization dialogue, highlighting that cultural diversity is the source of human society’s development and progress. The civilizations of Arab and China are characterized by progress, openness, love for peace and cooperation. Under the current circumstances, the two sides should uphold the spirits of equality, inclusiveness and fairness, promote the communication and integration between different civilizations, and do away with extremism and terrorist ideology for holistic and sustainable development.
The participants agreed that the two sides should foster a sense of a community with a shared future, discard ideological bias, avoid the clash of civilizations, respect the development paths of different countries based on their national conditions and practices, advocate equal-footed dialogue on the basis of solidarity and inclusiveness, and consolidate inter-civilization exchanges, that the two sides should strengthen dialogue between the two ancient civilizations to inject lasting impetus into the development of China-Arab relations, and that the two sides should strengthen people-to-people ties, carry forward the Silk Road spirit, lay a solid cultural foundation for China-Arab cooperation, and promote high-quality BRI cooperation.
The Symposium on China-Arab Relations and China-Arab Civilization Dialogue, an important institutional activity under the framework of the CASCF, is held every two years.
Since 2005, the symposium has been successfully held for nine times in China and Arab States.
