ADDIS ABABA – Presidents of Afar and Somali regional states in Eastern Ethiopia have agreed to immediately resolve issues that led to the deadly encounters.
Border clashes between Ethiopia’s Afar and Somali regions this month have killed many civilians, according to reports. Both sides deny having initiated the attacks and blame the other for the violence.
Leaders of the two regions convened on Thursday in a consultative meeting chaired by Minister of Peace Muferihat Kamil, on Thursday.
During the meeting, they reached “an amicable agreement to immediately resolve issues”, said Ministry that expressed its “support to their agreement”.
The meeting was attended by higher officials from the two regions and the peace and security leadership of the Federal Government.
