Addis Ababa (ENA) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed concluded his two days historic visit to Eritrea.
Eritrea’s President Isaias Afewerki and other government officials have bids a farewell for the Prime Minister today at Asmara International Airport.
Upon his arrival in the capital Asmara yesterday, Abiy was warmly welcomed by President Isaias and residents of the capital.
The leaders of the two countries inked a comprehensive agreement to re-establish ties in economic and trade between Eritrea and Ethiopia, which was trapped for the past 20 years.
Resuming the economic and diplomatic ties including utilization of port, airlines, and free movement of people were among the issues agreed by both leaders.
Many believe that lasting peace between Ethiopia and Eritrea could herald a new era in a strategic part of Africa.
Premier Abiy’s visit to Asmara is a daring move to end the two decade border standoff in historic breakthrough, it was learned.
