Police have set up cordons in Schaffhausen following the attack

At least five people have been hurt – two of them seriously – in an attack by an unidentified man in Switzerland.

Police say they are looking for the suspect following the incident in Schaffhausen.

Detectives have sealed off the centre of the town, which lies on the border with Germany.

Witnesses have told Swiss media that the man was armed with a chainsaw, but investigators are refusing to confirm these reports.

Cindy Beer, a police spokeswoman, told SRF television that police were called at 10.39am (9.39am UK time) on Monday morning.

“We can’t say exactly what happened at this point, we just know that a person wounded several people,” she added.
