BONN – A suspicious object found during a vehicle check on Thursday night prompted police to call in a bomb disposal team. The object was found to be harmless.

Police found a suspicious object during a vehicle control on Lievelingsweg in Bonn-Tannenbusch on Thursday evening. Officers blocked a wide area of the road at the motorway bridge on the A565 for several hours and requested a bomb disposal team from the state criminal police office in Dusseldorf.

The driver of the vehicle was initially taken into custody. There were two other passengers in the Golf, which did not have a Bonn number plate. At first the police talked about a “dangerous situation” but the bomb disposal team gave the all clear. Police said the object was harmless.
